Excalibur Nayar was Born in New Jersey to a family of Nicaraguan refugees. Excalibur labels themself a translator/transmitter choosing oil paint as their language to bridge the gap between grief, divination, and a multiplanar existence. Via a private divination process derived from their Central American ancestry, they actualize “spiritual portraits” of individuals in their life. Nayar utilizes a library of images, objects and symbols from their heritage to make sense of their being beyond its fleshy vessel. Their work aims to engage in decolonial dialogues and contemplate both the temporality and permanence of a soul. These ethereal and personal portraits beg the question: who are you beyond your body?
